Share a score as an image: what is on the picture and where it goes
Sometimes you just want to show someone how it went. The Shooter app can turn a score into a square picture, with the target, your shots and the total, and open the share sheet of your phone so you can send it.
This article goes through where the option is, what is on the picture and what is not. The picture is only a picture of a score: it carries no mark from any club. For that, see score checks by the club.
Where to find it
Two menus, one row
- On the result screen after a scan, open the menu in the header. The last row is “Share as image”.
- For a saved session, open it from History. The menu in its header has “Share as image” after Notes and Session type.
- Tap it. The app makes the picture and opens your phone’s share sheet with the picture ready to send.
The row only shows when there is something to show: a scan with at least one shot, or a session where at least one series has shots. There is no share option on the rows of the History list or on the Home screen.
What is on the picture
Target, shots, score, MR and ES
- At the top: the name of the discipline, the date and the course, for example “3 × 10” for three series of ten shots.
- In the middle: the target with your shots as dots.
- At the bottom: the score with the maximum, for example 270/300, then mean radius (MR) and extreme spread (ES) in millimetres when the app has them.
- The app’s web address in small letters.
The picture is square and always dark, whatever theme the app is set to. The target is drawn on light paper so it looks the same on any phone.
A scan or a saved session
The picture follows the screen you start from
From the result screen, the picture shows the scan on the screen. The scan is not saved yet, so the date on it is today.
From a saved session, all series are drawn together on one target. The score is the total for the session, the date is the session’s date and the course counts the series you actually shot. If a session ended early, the course counts only the series you shot, so three series of ten show as “3 × 10” and a session that stopped after two shows as “2 × 10”, with the maximum cut to match. You cannot share one series of a session on its own.
What is not on it
No name, gun, range or photo
The picture has no name of yours, no gun, no range, no notes and no photo of the paper target. On a saved session the discipline name can also carry the name of the ammunition you chose, so check that name before you share. There is no field for text of your own on the picture. You cannot edit the picture: no caption, and no choice of size, theme or what to show.
The picture is not a link and has no QR code. It carries no mark from any club. The club register’s “Verified score” column is a separate thing, described in score checks by the club.
Where it goes
Wherever you send it
The app makes the picture on the phone and gives it to the share sheet. The share sheet is your phone’s own, so the choices are whatever it offers, which depends on the phone and the apps on it. The app has no connection to any chat, club or social network of its own, and it does not upload the picture.
The picture is kept in a temporary file while you share it, and the app deletes the file afterwards. On Android it is deleted a little after the share sheet closes, so the receiving app has time to read it. A copy you save from the share sheet belongs to the phone or the app you sent it to, and Shooter does not control it.
Cost, account and internet
No account, offline
Sharing needs no account and works without internet. It does not use up any of the first 10 free scans. If the picture cannot be made, the app says “Could not share image” and you can try again.
Frequently asked questions
4 questions
Does Shooter upload the picture?
No. The picture is made on the phone and handed to your phone’s share sheet. It goes only where you choose to send it.
Does the picture show my name or my gun?
No. It shows the discipline, the date, the course, the target with your shots, the score, mean radius and extreme spread, and the app’s web address.
Can I change what is on the picture?
