02 / Coaching

A coach in your
range bag.

Most apps hand you a number. Shooter hands you a coach. It reads every series and tells you exactly where your points went — a loose group, a centre that drifted, the one flyer that cost you — then names the pattern behind it. Nothing else on the market breaks a session down like this.

Watch your score trend climb week over week, glance at Quick Stats for the headline numbers, and compare like-for-like by ammo, distance, and discipline. Export any session for your coach. The good days start repeating — once you can see what made them.

Works in the
middle of
nowhere.

10m airgun and 25m pistol already score entirely on your phone — airplane mode, indoor bunker, a basement with no bars, no network round trip at all. And it's a list we're actively growing: we add on-device disciplines in the order shooters ask for them, so more of your shooting works signal-free with every release.

Everything else scans with AI, so all 175+ disciplines score today while our own offline model takes over more of them over time. We're one of the only apps to pair a cloud AI scan with its own on-device model — with genuinely sharp detection on both.

Got a target
we don't
support yet?

Shoot the card. Photograph it the way you actually would on a range day — in sun, in shade, hanging on the frame, lying on the bench, a little tilted. The auto-tuner learns the ring geometry, the gauge rule, and the decimal mode from those natural variations.

Beta: the auto-tuner currently works on concentric-ring faces only (ISSF, NRA, club paper). Silhouettes and zone targets come in a later release.

Sync to your phoneAuto-tuning runs in the cloud — typically a few hours. We'll let you know when it's ready to sync.
Add custom targets: photograph a paper target, the phone scans it, and the app generates a ready-to-use scoring config.

06 / FAQ

Questions
from the line.

How accurate is camera scoring vs electronic targets?
On our benchmark suite — 49 competition-photo sets, 559 annotated holes across 10m air pistol and 25m pistol, the two disciplines our on-device detector covers — every hole was matched with zero false positives and zero failed target detections. We haven't run a formal side-by-side against electronic targets like RIKA or SIUS, but for training, club leagues, and most match formats, camera scoring holds up hole after hole.
How is the score actually computed?
Gauge-rule scoring per ISSF Rule 6.3.4.2 — the bullet edge is detected sub-pixel, then half the bullet diameter is added to the ring contact (we don't measure the splatter by eye). Decimals are reported to 0.1 ring when the ruleset allows. Every override you make in the review pass is recomputed from the raw measurement, not edited on top — there's an audit trail. Every release is checked against our own annotated benchmark suite of competition photos before it ships.
Does it work with my target?
175+ target faces ship today across ISSF, NRA, CMP, BDS, DSB, F-Class, and a long tail of national federations (DGI, DFS, KNSA, NSRA, MLAIC, and more). Each is calibrated against the official paper and the official scoring rules. If yours isn't on the list, send us a photo and the ruleset — most additions ship in the next monthly release.
What about lighting and angle? My range is dim.
The camera pipeline auto-corrects perspective up to ±25° tilt and adapts exposure on capture. Indoor cement bunkers, fluorescent lights, and direct sun all work. The viewfinder will tell you in real time if it can't see the ring boundary — usually a half-step closer fixes it.
Does it work offline?
Two disciplines — 10m airgun and 25m pistol — score fully offline, on-device, in airplane mode, with no network at all. Everything else uses a fast AI scan that needs a connection for that one capture. We're actively expanding offline coverage — adding disciplines in the order shooters request them — so more of your shooting works without a signal over time. And we're one of the only apps to pair a cloud AI scan with its own on-device model, with genuinely accurate detection on both.
Can I import my history from TargetScan?
Yes. Export a backup from TargetScan and import it straight into Shooter — your past targets and sessions come across so you start with your history intact instead of a blank diary. It's one of the few tools that lets you bring an existing shooting log with you.
Can I back up or export my data?
Yes. Take an encrypted backup of everything at any time and restore it on a new phone, export a full session report to share with a coach, and share a clean result image of any scored target. Your log is yours to move, keep, and hand off.
Is my data private?
The two offline disciplines score entirely on-device — nothing leaves your phone. Other disciplines use a fast AI scan that processes that one photo in the cloud (EU-hosted) to score it. Your matches, shot data, and training diary stay on your device. No account or email required, no advertising, no cross-app tracking. We collect only anonymous, no-PII diagnostics (crashes via Sentry, product analytics via PostHog, both EU-hosted); purchases go through the App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat. Full breakdown is in our privacy policy, and we follow GDPR.
Can I use it for sanctioned competition?
Use it as a training and club-level scoring tool. For sanctioned matches, defer to your federation's officiating system — but bring Shooter for the practice cards, the dope book, and the post-match review. Several club leagues have already adopted it for unofficial relay scoring.
