Not sure what to work on? Where the app’s notes under a score lead
The Shooter app does not hold a library of tips. The guides are articles on this website, and the app takes you to them in two ways: a “Training tips” row on the Profile tab, and a “Read more” link inside the note that a chip under your score opens.
This article goes through both, which chip leads to which guide, and what the app needs before it shows a chip. The guides themselves are in the shooting technique section. For the app’s other views of your shooting, see analysis of your shooting.
The Profile link
One row, opens the guides
Open the Profile tab. In the “General” group, after Dark Mode and Language, there is a row called “Training tips”. It opens the shooting technique section of this website in your phone’s browser, in your app language when the site is published in it, and in English otherwise.
It is a link to a web page, so it needs internet. If the phone refuses to open the link, the app tells you and offers a “Copy link” button, so you can paste the address into a browser yourself.
Chips under a score
Tap a chip, then “Read more”
When you have scored a series by scanning a target, a row of chips can appear under the score. Each chip names something the shots show, such as flyers or a group that is wider up and down. A session you typed in has no shot positions, so it gets no such chips. Tap a chip and a sheet opens with a picture on the target, a short text, a “Try this” line where there is one, and a “Read more” link to a guide.
It is two taps from the chip to the guide: one to open the sheet, one on “Read more”. The texts are worded as something that can point to a cause, not as a diagnosis. Chips that rest on few shots, such as the spread, group-walks and drops-at-the-end chips, are marked “Preliminary”.
Which chip leads to which guide
Seven guides, two chips without one
| Chip | Guide |
|---|---|
| Misses gathering toward one side of the target (heeling, thumbing, grip squeeze, pushing) | The pistol correction chart |
| The same chip, trigger heavy or jerking | Trigger control |
| The same chip, anticipation | Flinching |
| Flyers | Follow-through |
| Wider side to side | Holding steady |
| Wider up and down | Breathing when shooting |
| Series land apart, or the group walks | Natural point of aim |
| Tighten the group first (shown instead of a sights chip when the spread comes first) | Holding steady |
| Drops at the end | No guide |
| Sights | No guide, it opens the sight adjustment sheet |
The chip that gathers misses at one side is for pistols and revolvers only. A rifle shooter does not get it.
What a chip needs
Enough shots, and the right series
- The side-of-target chip needs at least 8 shots below the top ring, with a large share of them in one zone, and the size of the bullet known for the target.
- The group-walks chip needs a series shot in scope mode with at least 9 shots.
- The series-land-apart chip needs a session of at least 3 series.
- The drops-at-the-end chip needs at least 4 series.
- A course whose series span several faces, as in rapid fire, does not get the flyer, spread, shift or walk chips.
For a left-handed shooter the zone on the target is mirrored. Set your shooting hand on the Profile tab, in the “Shooting hand” row.
Recurring faults
On a discipline’s page
Once a discipline has sessions, its page can show a “Recurring faults” card. It lists up to five faults that the chips flagged in at least two of your last 20 scanned sessions on that target, with how many sessions and how many times. Tapping a row opens the latest occurrence with the same “Read more” link; the “Sights are off” row opens that session instead. The card stays empty until a fault has shown in two sessions.
What it is not
No tip library, no programme
The chips, sheets and the recurring-faults list are worked out on the phone from the shots already saved, and work without internet. Only the guides need a connection, because they are web pages.
The app has no list of tips of its own, no training programme and no search of tips. The guides are general technique articles, not personal coaching, and a chip is a lead to check, not a diagnosis.
Frequently asked questions
4 questions
Is there a tips section inside the app?
No. The Training tips row on the Profile tab opens the technique guides on this website in your browser.
Why did no chip appear under my score?
A chip only appears when the shots show enough of a pattern, and each kind needs a minimum number of shots or series. A rifle series never gets the side-of-target chip.
Does every chip lead to a guide?
No. “Drops at the end” has no guide, and the sight chips open the sight adjustment sheet instead.
Do I need internet to see the chips?
No. The chips and their texts are on the phone. Only the guide behind “Read more” is a web page.
