- Course
- Centre Fire Pistol is 60 shots in two stages of 30, each of six 5-shot series: first the precision stage on this card, 240 seconds per series, then the rapid-fire stage on the rapid-fire card.ISSF rules 6.3.4.4 and 8.7.6.4
- Sighters
- Each stage opens with 3 minutes of preparation, after which the athlete may fire one 5-shot sighting series; all athletes fire every series together, on the same commands.ISSF rules 8.7.6.1 and 8.7.6.4
- Position and height
- The athlete stands free, without support, and holds and fires the pistol with one hand only, wrist visibly free of support. The target centre is 1.40 m above the firing point floor, up to 0.10 m higher or 0.20 m lower.ISSF rules 8.7.1 and 6.4.6.1
- Pistol
- Any centre-fire pistol or revolver of 7.62 to 9.65 mm (.30 to .38), except a single-shot one, may be used if it conforms to the specification table; high-power or magnum ammunition and jacketed bullets are not allowed.ISSF rules 8.4.3.3 and 8.4.4
- Rapid-fire stage
- In the rapid-fire stage of 25m Pistol and 25m Centre Fire Pistol, six 5-shot series, the target appears five times a series for 3 seconds, one shot each time, 7 seconds apart, the arm going back to READY before every shot.ISSF rule 8.7.6.4
- Paper targets
- On paper, each competition card takes 10 shots, there is one sighting card, and cards are scored and patched after every 5-shot series.ISSF rule 8.11
- Shots while turning
- On paper, a shot fired while the target is turning counts as a hit only if its hole, ignoring lead marks, is less than 7.0 mm wide in .22 events or 11.0 mm in Centre Fire Pistol; a skid gauge measures it.ISSF Rules for Paper Target Scoring, rule 5.3.1
- Ties
- Qualification is scored in whole rings. Ties are broken by the most inner tens, then the last 10-shot series counting back, then shot by shot from the last, an inner ten beating a ten.ISSF rules 6.11.9.7 and 6.15.1
