ISSF targets

The ISSF is the world federation the Olympic movement recognises for shooting, and its rules decide the Olympic rifle, pistol and shotgun events. Those rifle and pistol events are shot on five of the faces below: 10 m air rifle and air pistol, 50 m rifle, and the 25 m rapid-fire and precision faces.

Qualification is counted in whole rings — except air rifle and 50 m prone at ISSF Championships, which count tenths, so a perfect shot is 10.9. Only the best eight go on to a final, which starts from zero; the 25 m pistol finals are hit or miss. On paper, a hole that touches a line takes the higher ring, and inner tens break ties.

ISSF events shot on two targets

Most events are described on their target's page. These are shot on two targets – precision on one, rapid fire or duel on the other – so each has a page of its own: the whole course stage by stage, with the federation's rules.
