MLAIC 50m Rifle (C200) target

MLAIC's musket card, the French military C200, carries three events for smooth-bore muskets: Miquelet with a military flintlock, and Tanegashima (standing) and Hizadai (kneeling) with matchlocks. Each is 13 shots in 30 minutes, all on one card, the ten best counting, and a shot on a line scores higher only if the centre of its hole touches the line.

Leistungs- und Meisterschützenabzeichen des DSB

DSB proficiency and master marksman badges

The DSB gives its performance badges each year to reward results and to encourage shooting for performance. A badge result can also count as the coordination test of the German Sports Badge (Deutsches Sportabzeichen) the same year. Clubs order the badges on a form at the end of each quarter, through their district, from their state association; in 2026 a small badge cost €4.00, a large one €4.50 and the master marksman badge €6.50.

Age classes go by the age reached in the calendar year, the DSB’s sport year.

KNSA-vaardigheidskruis

KNSA proficiency cross

The KNSA set up its proficiency tests for master marksmen, with the cross as their award; its general board changes the requirements, yearly where needed, on the national technical committees’ proposal. The vaardigheidskruis is an enamelled gilt cross on a 27 mm red, white and blue ribbon, and each clasp costs a fee the board sets. The KNSA keeps a numbered register of every test taken, open to any shooter, and sends out the awards itself.

Shot at a KNSA classification match, a district, regional or national championship or an international match, before an authorised KNSA official, and announced before the series with an entry fee; a proef is awarded once a year. The first pass brings the cross, each later one a numbered clasp; 25 passes in all bring a silvered pin, 50 a gilt one. Categories by the age reached in the season, 1 October to 30 September: senioren 21–54, junioren-A 18–20, -B 15–17, -C 13–14, veteranen 55 and over.

How it is shot

Miquelet · Tanegashima, Hizadai · Course · Matchlocks · Electronic targets · Gauging · Ties
Miquelet
No. 1 Miquelet is shot standing with a military smooth-bore flintlock musket of at least 16.5 mm bore, with original pattern sights but no rear sight, firing round ball only. Cleaning between shots is not allowed, and only a short funnel.MLAIC rule 4.11, No. 1
Tanegashima, Hizadai
No. 14 Tanegashima (standing) and No. 16 Hizadai (kneeling) are shot with smooth-bore matchlock muskets of any calibre, firing round ball: original cheek-stock muskets in the original class, free ones in the reproduction class.MLAIC rule 4.11, Nos. 14 and 16
Course
Each event is 13 shots in a 30-minute relay, all fired at one card, and the ten highest-scoring shots count.MLAIC rules 4.4.b.vii and 4.5.e.i
Matchlocks
With a matchlock, the lighted end of the match is kept in a safe container while loading and secured so it cannot fly about on firing; it may be lit before Commence Fire. Slings are forbidden on matchlocks.MLAIC rules 3.3.j and 4.9.a.xii
Electronic targets
On electronic targets, Miquelet, Tanegashima and Hizadai are scored only from the 10 to the 5 ring, because of the size of the electronic target frames.MLAIC rule 4.5.e.iii.bb
Gauging
A shot on a line scores the higher ring only if the centre point of the bullet hole touches the line, and the outside edge of the line counts as the line.MLAIC rule 4.6.c
Ties
In individual events, ties go to the shooter with more shots in each ring, from the highest down. If still equal, the counting shot furthest from the centre loses; the three non-counting shots are measured only if the ten counting shots cannot settle it.MLAIC rule 4.6.f

The Shooter app's scan screen, shown with an ISSF 10m Air Pistol card: each shot marked, the score, and the size and centre of the group

Training on paper? Photograph a card and the Shooter app finds the holes and scores them by these rings: every shot, the series total, your group’s size and centre. Holes merged? Add, move or remove a shot. Every card joins your training log, so drift shows up over time.

Scored with AI for now, which needs internet and your permission to upload the photo to an AI service in the US. Some AI scans may be free while we collect photos of this target; then each uses an AI credit (sold in packs in the app). Scoring by hand is free.
