NRA A-25 100yd Rifle target
The A-25 carries the longest stage of NRA Conventional Prone: a 40-shot match of its own, ten shots to a bull, and the longer half of the Dewar course, named after the International Dewar Team Match. In prone aggregates, a tie that survives the X count goes to the total on these cards.

CMP Achievement Awards
Every CMP rulebook, from air gun and smallbore to service rifle, pistol and the CMP Games, sets achievement awards as an incentive to take part and improve. In EIC matches, shooters already Distinguished, who earn no more credit points, still compete for achievement pins. If extreme weather lowers every score in a CMP Games match, or many competitors are new, the match director may lower the bronze score, but not below the 40th-percentile competitor.
Gold, silver or bronze for equalling or exceeding the cut score in one match at a CMP-sanctioned or CMP-run competition. The cut scores come from earlier national championship scores, set so that roughly the top 40 percent of competitors earn an award: the top sixth of them gold, the next two sixths silver, the rest bronze.

NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program
The NRA dates the programme to 1903 and measures shooters against par scores in 23 qualifications, from BB gun to shotgun and multi-gun. Awards are ordered from the NRA’s Program Materials Center: the discipline’s patch at the start, then a rocker, medal, pin and certificate for each rating. NRA members who reach Distinguished Expert get its packet free, and those who earn it in 2 or 3 of rifle, pistol and shotgun become Double or Triple Distinguished.
Ratings are earned in order, from Pro-Marksman up, at the shooter’s own pace; a score counts only toward the rating being worked on and cannot be held for a higher one, and the repetitions need not be fired in a row or in one session. Distinguished Expert firing is witnessed by an NRA member, instructor or coach, unless it is shot in competition.

How it is shot
Course · Dewar course · Time · X ring · Dewar ties · Aggregate ties · Scoring overlay
- Course
- The 100 yd match is 40 shots, or 20 in its short form, ten to a bull; a 20-shot stage is a 10-shot string on each of two bulls, and targets are customarily changed after each 20 shots.NRA rules 7.1, 7.2 and 7.2.1; glossary
- Dewar course
- The Dewar course is 20 shots prone on the A-23 at 50 yd and 20 on this card. Its namesake, the International Dewar Team Match, uses metallic sights; domestic matches are also fired with telescopic sights.NRA rule 17.5(a)(1); glossary
- Time
- Prone time is one minute per record shot, set for each stage rather than checked shot by shot; time left unused does not carry over to another string or stage.NRA rules 8.1 and 8.2(b)
- X ring
- Any hole touching the outside edge of the X ring counts as an X. X's break ties first, rank scores and set national records in outdoor conventional prone.NRA rules 14.3(c) and 15.7.1
- Dewar ties
- A Dewar tie still level on X's goes to the higher score at 100 yd, then X's at 100 yd, then the 100 yd bulls from the last back; then the same at 50 yd.NRA rule 15.7.1(a)(2)
- Aggregate ties
- In prone aggregates, ties still level on X's go to the total on all 100 yd cards (A-25 or A-33), then X's at 100 yd, then the bulls in reverse order.NRA rule 15.7.1(b)
- Scoring overlay
- Where groups of two or more shots, or holes joined by a tear, partly obliterate the X, 10 or 9 rings of an outdoor card, scorers value them with the NRA Smallbore Rifle Scoring aid overlay, not a plug gauge.NRA rule 14.3(d)

Training on paper? Photograph a card and the Shooter app finds the holes and scores them by these rings: every shot, your X count, the series total, your group’s size and centre. Holes merged? Add, move or remove a shot. Every card joins your training log, so drift shows up over time.
Scored with AI for now, which needs internet and your permission to upload the photo to an AI service in the US. Some AI scans may be free while we collect photos of this target; then each uses an AI credit (sold in packs in the app). Scoring by hand is free.
