NRA A-7/5 75ft Rifle target
The A-7 is the NRA's card for indoor Conventional 4-Position on the longer indoor range, printed as the five-bull A-7/5 and the ten-bull A-7/10, two shots to each bull. Scores on it and on the A-17 compete for the same national records, whichever is higher, and with no X ring, ties go to centre shots.

How it is shot
Course · Time · Target height · Backing · National records · Centre shots · Ties
- Course
- The course is 10 or 20 shots in each of prone, sitting, kneeling and standing, two shots to a bull; leaving out sitting makes it a Conventional 3-Position course.NRA rule 7.3
- Time
- Indoor conventional matches allow one minute per record shot prone, sitting and kneeling and 1½ minutes standing, set for each stage rather than checked shot by shot, with at least five more minutes for each change of position.NRA rules 8.1 and 8.2(a)
- Target height
- Suggested heights for an indoor multi-bull card, measured to the centre of the bottom bulls, are about 14 in prone, 26 in sitting and kneeling, and up to 55 in standing.NRA rule 6.8
- Backing
- At 50 ft and 75 ft, Registered Tournaments must hang a tagboard backing target 3 in behind the record card, to identify cross-fires and multiple shot holes; at Approved Tournaments it is the sponsor's choice.NRA rule 6.7(a)
- National records
- The indoor four-position national records may be fired on the A-7/5 or A-7/10 at 75 ft or on the A-17 at 50 ft; the higher score from either distance counts.NRA rules 17.2 and 17.5(e)
- Centre shots
- With no X ring, ties go first to centre shots: holes inside the ten ring whose .22 plug gauge flange does not touch the ring's outside edge.NRA rule 14.3(f)(2)
- Ties
- In a multi-position match, ties go to centre shots, then the higher standing score, then kneeling and prone, then stage by stage and bull by bull from the last, standing first.NRA rule 15.7.2(b)

Training on paper? Photograph a card and the Shooter app finds the holes and scores them by these rings: every shot, the series total, your group’s size and centre. Holes merged? Add, move or remove a shot. Every card joins your training log, so drift shows up over time.
Scored with AI for now, which needs internet and your permission to upload the photo to an AI service in the US. Some AI scans may be free while we collect photos of this target; then each uses an AI credit (sold in packs in the app). Scoring by hand is free.
