SPSF 50m Magnum Precision Pistol target
Magnumprecision is SPSF's precision event for magnum revolvers and other large-calibre handguns, shot on the precision card at a longer range and only on ranges approved for magnum ammunition. Shooters choose their own position and may rest the gun against the body; there are no classes, just nine weapon groups, and it is open from the year a shooter turns 18.

How it is shot
Approved ranges · Positions · Course · Eligibility · Weapon groups · Standard medal · Gauging · Ties
- Approved ranges
- Magnumprecision is shot with large-calibre guns on the pistol card at 50 m. Because of its high noise, it may be shot only on ranges expressly approved for magnum-loaded ammunition.SPSF rules G.1.1 and G.1.3
- Positions
- Shooters may take any position, but no body part, theirs or anyone's, may be within 45° in front of the muzzle; the barrel or other parts of the gun may rest against the body, and a back rest up to 300 mm across is allowed.SPSF rules G.6.3 and G.5
- Course
- A match is as a rule at least six series of 5 shots, 5 minutes each, after 3 minutes' preparation without loading and a sighting series of 5 shots in 5 minutes.SPSF rules G.6.1, G.6.5 and G.6.6
- Eligibility
- There are no classes. Shooters may take up magnumprecision from the calendar year they turn 18 and need the Pistolskyttekort for anything beyond club competitions; anyone entitled to shoot it may enter the SM, held in weapon groups M1 to M7.SPSF rules G.2.1, G.2.2, G.3 and C.3.6.2.3
- Weapon groups
- Guns fall into nine groups: M1–M4 single- and double-action .357 and .41–.44 Magnum revolvers, M5 a free group allowing any sights except projecting beams, M6 pistols, M7 magnum revolvers with barrels up to 165 mm, M8 other revolvers, M9 service-type pistols.SPSF rules G.4 and G.4.1
- Standard medal
- At district and higher competitions, the best ninth of each weapon group wins SPSF's silver standard medal and the best third bronze; in magnumprecision a fixed total also wins it, such as 282 for silver and 274 for bronze in groups M1–M4 and M8.SPSF rules C.5.1, C.5.1.2 and C.5.1.2.4
- Gauging
- A hole takes the higher value once it touches the ring's outer edge. Doubtful hits are gauged with SPSF's field-shooting gauges by calibre: 9.1 mm for .38, .357 and 9 mm, 10.3 mm for .40 and .41, 11.0 mm for .44, 11.4 mm for .45.SPSF rules G.6.10.1 and G.6.10.4, table 3
- Ties
- Equal totals go to the most Xs, then the higher last series, the one before and so on, then the most Xs, tens, nines in the last series and so on. At SM, regional and district championships, tied medal places go to a shoot-off.SPSF rules G.6.11.2.1 and G.6.11.2.1.1

Training on paper? Photograph a card and the Shooter app finds the holes and scores them by these rings: every shot, your inner tens, the series total, your group’s size and centre. Holes merged? Add, move or remove a shot. Every card joins your training log, so drift shows up over time.
Scored with AI for now, which needs internet and your permission to upload the photo to an AI service in the US. Some AI scans may be free while we collect photos of this target; then each uses an AI credit (sold in packs in the app). Scoring by hand is free.
