NRA No. LR Rifle target

The LR is the NRA’s long-range target, for High Power’s longest matches, all fired prone and slow, including the Palma Course of 15 shots at each of three distances. Its 6 is not a ring but the rest of the square face, and 448 or more over the Palma Course with a Palma rifle earns a place in the NRA’s 448 Club.

How it is shot

Course · Sighters · Time · Palma rifle · Bisley style · Gauging · Ties
Course
Matches on the LR are fired prone, slow fire: 10- or 20-shot matches at 1,000 yards, and the 45-shot Palma Course of 15 shots each at 800, 900 and 1,000 yards.NRA rules 7.13 and 7.18
Sighters
Unlimited sighters may be allowed in 20-shot 1,000-yard matches and in the Palma Course’s 800-yard stage; the shooter may then change rifle or sights and be coached, but only before the first record shot, with no extra time.NRA rule 9.2(b)
Time
At 1,000 yards with unlimited practice shots, all practice and record firing of a 20-shot match must be done within 30 minutes; in the Palma Course, practice and the 15 record shots within 22 minutes per stage.NRA rule 8.2(a)
Palma rifle
Palma Course national records can only be set with a U.S. Palma Rifle: metallic sights and an unmodified .308/7.62 or .223/5.56 NATO case with bullets up to 156 or 91 grains, or a rule-3.1 service rifle for the same unmodified cases, any bullet weight.NRA rules 7.19(b) and 3.3.1
Bisley style
Optional Bisley-style courses put two or three shooters on one target, firing alternately at 45 seconds per shot each, with two convertible sighters and 15 or 20 record shots at 1,000 yards.NRA rule 7.27
Gauging
Hits are scored by the diameter of the bullet fired: a hole whose leading edge touches a ring, keyholes included, takes the higher value, judged with gauges from .224 in for 5.56 mm to .308 in for 7.62 mm.NRA rule 14.3
Ties
An X is the hit of highest value: ties go to the most Xs, then the higher score and then the Xs at the longest range, then at the next range, then the fewest misses and fewest hits of lowest value.NRA rules 15.2 and 15.4

Outside the rings
The 6 is not a ring: it is the rest of the square face outside the 7 ring. Sponsors who cannot get single-sheet faces may piece one together, but it must fully form the 7 ring, and hits outside it on the face score 6.NRA rules 4.7(a) and 4.7(c)

The Shooter app's scan screen, shown with an ISSF 10m Air Pistol card: each shot marked, the score, and the size and centre of the group

Training on paper? Photograph a card and the Shooter app finds the holes and scores them by these rings: every shot, your X count, the series total, your group’s size and centre. Holes merged? Add, move or remove a shot. Every card joins your training log, so drift shows up over time.

Scored with AI for now, which needs internet and your permission to upload the photo to an AI service in the US. Some AI scans may be free while we collect photos of this target; then each uses an AI credit (sold in packs in the app). Scoring by hand is free.
