DSB proficiency and master marksman badges

The DSB gives its performance badges each year to reward results and to encourage shooting for performance. A badge result can also count as the coordination test of the German Sports Badge (Deutsches Sportabzeichen) the same year. Clubs order the badges on a form at the end of each quarter, through their district, from their state association; in 2026 a small badge cost €4.00, a large one €4.50 and the master marksman badge €6.50.

Age classes go by the age reached in the calendar year, the DSB’s sport year.

  • Rings in one match of the shots given, at a club shooting day or any DSB competition, announced to the range officer before the start and shot under supervision; one condition a day, no second try that day.
  • The small badge takes the score once; the large badge, after the small one of the same colour, five times within a year.
  • Only DSB-approved cards count.
  • Female juniors take 5 rings off the junior numbers, as the table’s footnote says (worked out in the Junioren weiblich table); a class with no number may shoot the next stronger class’s.
  • The LP-Mehrkampf shoots four 5-shot series in 150 seconds on Nr. 7, then four in rapid fire, 3 seconds on and 7 off, on this card; the badge counts the total.

How it is shot

Course · Turning targets · Ready position · Penalties · Sighters · Pistol · Ties
Course
In the air pistol combined event (2.17), 20 precision shots in four series of 5, 150 seconds each, go on the 10 m pistol card (Nr. 7); the 20 rapid-fire shots, four series of 5, go on this card.DSB rule 0.21, event 2.17
Turning targets
In each rapid-fire series the target turns to face the shooter five times for 3 seconds and away for 7; it first appears 7 seconds (± 1) after ACHTUNG. On fixed targets, START and STOP commands 3 seconds apart take the place of turning.DSB rules 2.13.4 and 2.18.3.3
Ready position
Before every shot the arm comes down at least 45° from horizontal, the pistol neither rested nor pointed at the floor of the stand, the arm without visible movement; it may rise only when the targets start to turn or the light signal shows.DSB rules 2.6 and 2.18.3.3
Penalties
Lowering the arm less than 45°, or raising it before the turn, brings a warning (yellow card) and a repeat of the series, scored with the lower shot values of both; a second breach in the stage costs two rings, a third disqualifies.DSB rule 2.6
Sighters
One sighting series is allowed before the precision part and one before the rapid-fire part.DSB rule 2.13.2
Pistol
Any repeating 4.5 mm (.177) air pistol of at most 7.5 joules may be used, up to 1,500 g with a trigger of at least 500 g, fitting the 420 × 200 × 50 mm box (0 to +1 mm) without its magazine.DSB rule 2.13 and the pistol table
Ties
Where no final is shot, ties for places 1 to 3 are decided by a shoot-off of one rapid-fire series, repeated until decided; ties below go to the last 10-shot series counting back, then the most 10s, 9s, 8s…, then inner tens.DSB rules 2.9 and 0.12.1

The Shooter app's scan screen, shown with an ISSF 10m Air Pistol card: each shot marked, the score, and the size and centre of the group

Training on paper? Photograph a card and the Shooter app finds the holes and scores them by these rings: every shot, your inner tens, the series total, your group’s size and centre. Holes merged? Add, move or remove a shot. Every card joins your training log, so drift shows up over time.

Scored with AI for now, which needs internet and your permission to upload the photo to an AI service in the US. Some AI scans may be free while we collect photos of this target; then each uses an AI credit (sold in packs in the app). Scoring by hand is free.
